On “An EVENING of GRACE and THANKSGIVING” Harlem CARES Mentoring Movement and Harlem World Magazine proudly announced their commitment to the children of the community through their creation of a partnership with a purpose titled Harlem CARES Bridge to Mentor Power, an offering of gifts of support and promise to our vulnerable young. Susan L. Taylor, Editor-In-Chief Emeritus of ESSENCE magazine and Founder of the National CARES Mentoring Movement delivered a Thanksgiving address about the healing power of gratitude and creating joy and peace in our lives and community.

Hosted by NAACP Image Award-winning actor Malik Yoba, star of ABC’s”Defying Gravity,” the evening featured Grammy Award-winning singer Maya Azucena, who believes music is a tool for healing and activism; DJ Shogun, celebrity man of wax; a special performance by the Mt. Pleasant Community Church Choir; and other outstanding acts.

We visited Casa Frela Art Gallery for the Harlem Holiday Trunk Show. While the DJ spinned the 1s & 2s, people from all 5 boroughs enjoyed a shopping experience of high quality, hand crafted products. The Harlem Holiday Trunk Show was presented by Latoya Henry, chief crafty of Memory Lane By Toya. Memory Lane by Toya is a line of custom gift items consisting of collage-based pop culture home decor and purse items. These items include t-shirts, hand-crafted picture frames, cigar boxes and other home items centered around all things nostalgic.
